In 1998, Keur Simbara, Senegal was among the first communities to publicly abandon the traditions of Female Genital Cutting (FGC) and child marriage, traditions which had been practiced for centuries. This documentary is directed by 13-year-old Ndèye Fatou Fall, and how her life has been affected by profound changes that occurred in her village a few years before she was born. Walk on My Own broadcast on PBS in November, 2018. In 2020, it received the Japan Prize, for excellence in children’s television, and the Gender Equity award from Prix Jeunesse International.
